Encoder Accuracy

Incremental encoder accuracy can be measured many ways:
  • Absolute position accuracy
  • Phase separation
  • Duty cycle accuracy

Modern encoder accuracy is typically only a factor in applications requiring position measurements and position control. For most speed control applications, any Avtron encoder will provide sufficiently accurate feedback to reach 0.1% speed control accuracy or better.

PPR is not a measure of encoder accuracy; it is a measure of resolution. Encoders’ accuracy is not a function of resolution; many high resolution encoders are no more accurate than their low-resolution cousins; they simply provide more pulses for the same amount of movement.
