Stub Shafts for Encoders

A selection of stub shafts for encoders.
Many applications require the extension of existing motor or line shafts to permit encoder mounting or coupling. The key to successful stub shafts is good centering. This gives straight, true shaft alignment with minimal run-out (TIR).

Avtron stub shafts do not typically use the thread-in portion of the connection to provide centering. Instead, our stub shafts typically grasp the outer diameter of the existing shaft. Alternatively, many Avtron stub shafts designed to fit GE DC motors use a pilot to fit a machined, recessed (rabbeted) area in the end of the shaft. Both of these types of stub shafts may use bolts or set screws to hold them in place, but the fastener is not used to center the shaft. Avtron has many stub shafts for common motor models and line shafts.
