LONG PRODUCTS ROLLING
Avtron Long Products Rolling Control Systems ensure your mill can run with the highest line speed, most accurate Shear Control and lowest downtime possible. Our engineered solutions for drive and diagnostic systems for long products have proven to be ideal for the unique requirements of these applications.
Avtron has the process knowledge acquired through hundreds of successful stand and shear installations in North America and Asia. Our systems have been applied in both new and zero-downtime upgrade applications with equal success. Our zero-downtime upgrade capabilities can get your line speed and performance where it should be at minimal cost and with no extended mill downtime.
Our Performance View Process Diagnostic System has also maximized the uptime for our Bar, Rod, and Tube Mill customers. The system automatically and continuously records drive and process data and events to allow problems to be quickly and easily identified and repaired. Our P.V. Viewer software allows the data to be easily manipulated and searched to maintain and repair drive and PLC controls with current mill operating values. The data can also be used in a Predictive or Preventive Maintenance Program for determining 'normal running conditions' for later comparison to mill operating values. |

Merchant Mills |

Avtron has experience with drive systems installed on Merchant Mills. We
have applied our SCR Retrofit and DC Drive products for the horizontal
stands in the Roughing and Intermediate trains, and for alternate
vertical and horizontal stands in the Finishing train.
Our drive hardware and software features are
ideal for the Merchant Mill because the standard drives can perform the
Cascaded Speed Reference function directly from drive-to-drive. Further,
the drives can control the Shears more accurately because of the
superior internal resolution and update times of the control loops. This
results in a more efficient mill which produces less waste and more
shippable product.
Less waste and more shippable product is
also the result of the Performance View
(TM) System we use for these mills.
This Process Diagnostic System continuously and automatically gathers
and stores all of the critical mill drive and
process control data. This data can easily
be manipulated and correlated to find problems on the mill faster so
that troubleshooting and repair time can be minimized. Further, the data
can be used to establish a “benchmark” operating condition for the
establishment of a mill Predictive Maintenance Program. |

Bar and Rod Mills |

Avtron’s experience on Bar and Rod Mills
is extensive. We have used our ADDvantage-32
(TM)
Advanced Firing Module and our AC/DC Digital Drive to control Stands,
Shears, and Pinch Rolls. We have provided these systems in both retrofit
and new mill installations.
Our drives have many standard features built-in that make a superior
Bar/Rod Mill System. We can
perform both the Looper
control and the Cascaded Speed Reference for the Finishing Stands
directly in the drive. Many of our retrofit customers have been able to
increase the line speed by an average of one meter per minute due to
these control features. Further, the drive’s internal resolutions and
update times mean more accurate Shear Control is achieved, thereby
reducing the waste caused by inaccurate Shear cuts.

Tube Mills |

Avtron has applied its system for several
Tube Mill upgrades. We have used both our ADDvantage-32
(TM) Advanced Firing
Module for SCR retrofits and our Advanced AC/DC Digital Drives for new
drive applications.
Our system upgrades for Tube Mills provide
a path for replacement of obsolete drive regulators on critical sections.
This reduces the high cost of service of existing drive components and stops
catastrophic drive failures on critical machine sections, thus
decreasing downtime.
Depending on the mill requirements, we
can also provide Class I fault protection on critical machine drives and
provide diagnostics for future troubleshooting and improvements. This
has allowed our Tube Mill customers to bring productivity and efficiency
ratings back to acceptable levels. It also
counteracts rising utility costs while
continuing current production rates. This allows a
better response to market demands in
production orders so that different grades and sizes of tube can be

Process Diagnostic System’s first metals application was on a Tube mill.
It allowed the mill uptime to be maximized by providing the advanced
troubleshooting tools to facilitate fast and easy repairs of mill
